Decorative Art Studio D. Bracia Łopieńscy

Behind the scenes of the studio
Description

Bronzing. Decorative art.

Information from the website:

This is one of Warsaw's oldest existing family businesses, founded in 1862 by Jan Łopieński, a sculptor, chaser, bronze caster, and founder.
His work was continued by his sons Grzegorz, Feliks, and Ignacy, his grandsons Tadeusz, Władysław, and Zdzisław, and currently his great-granddaughter Jan - Anna. They created dozens of monuments, statues, and chamber sculptures, as well as thousands of works of art made of gold, silver, and bronze. They competed in the quality of their products with the most famous French and Viennese bronze makers. They sold their products to Russia, Germany, the USA, Canada, South Africa, and Great Britain. They were multiple award winners, receiving medals at International Art Exhibitions, including in Paris, Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Brussels, St. Petersburg, New York, Lviv, and Warsaw. After gaining independence in 1918, „Bracia Łopieńscy” equipped the most important offices of the Republic of Poland with representative „arts decoratifs” artifacts. After 1945, they restored most of the destroyed monuments in Warsaw, including the statues of King Sigismund III Vasa, Copernicus, Mickiewicz, and the Mermaid. In 1950, the company was nationalized and its creative, staff, and technical potential was irrevocably wasted. In 1956, the last of the brothers, Tadeusz, obtained permission from the authorities to open a miniature „Metal Workshop of Decorative Art, formerly „Bracia Łopieńscy”," which is now run by his daughter, Anna Łopieńska-Lipczyk, and her husband.

We are. For 140 years. Against all odds and in defiance. Balzac claimed that true history is the only thing in the world that cannot be bought with money. In our efforts in the Studio, we pay homage to past eras in art, striving to simultaneously exist within the current of contemporary creation. We assess everything new with distance, invariably concluding that nothing can be created without referring to the works of all the Great Absentees. It is they who give us a sense of our own identity, compelling us to constantly search for the ideal of good and beauty. This is our dream goal and, at the same time, our guide. It is a way of life and a subject for life. We are - as can be seen from our current creations - on the border of what has already been in art and what is currently being born.
